HUMVEE First Operations: Iraq

In 40 Years of HUMVEE by Griffin Jones

Iraq’s Invasion of Kuwait

In 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait and occupied the country within two days. In response, a 42-country coalition headed by the United States drew in on Kuwait and Iraq to halt the conflict.

The Humvee, now the choice vehicle for the U.S. Army, made another debut, this time exploring a more urban style of conflict, taking on new challenges. With these initial conflicts, AM General understood it needed to find new solutions to an everchanging battlefield to properly transport and protect its Humvee occupants.
