My HUMVEE Story | by Jennifer McGrew

When I reflect on where it all began, I can’t help but smile. My husband and I were both hired to work on the first JLTV program—the start of an incredible journey together. It was here at AM General, in these very hallways and meeting rooms, that we first met. Whether by fate, timing, or something more, we found ourselves in the same place at the same time. This pivotal moment set the foundation not only for our careers but for our lives together.

While I immersed myself in my role, my husband worked alongside a colleague—now one of his closest friends—to write the technical manual for the JLTV program. Their dedication and teamwork didn’t go unnoticed, and eventually, both were called back to their previous roles at General Motors.

I stayed with AM General. There was something about this place, the people, and the vehicles, like HUMVEE and more, that felt like home. I’ve poured my heart into my career here at AM General, and it’s been nothing short of fulfilling. Watching AM General win the JLTV A2 program was a proud, full-circle moment. It felt like all the late nights, challenges, and triumphs had led to something truly meaningful.

Last summer, I was filled with pride as I watched my stepson intern here. Seeing him walk through these halls, eager to learn and contribute, reminded me of the deep connection my family has to this company and HUMVEEs. It wasn’t just a job for him—it was a chance to grow, and witness firsthand the incredible products we make. Watching him realize the profound impact of our work on the world was a moment I will always treasure. It reaffirmed why I’ve stayed and why I’m so passionate about what we do.

Over the years, I’ve experienced so much. I’ve made lasting friendships, shared unforgettable moments, and gained invaluable lessons. While it hasn’t always been easy, every step of the journey has been worth it.

Today, I am filled with gratitude to work at AM General. It’s more than just a place of employment—it’s part of my personal story, my journey, and my joy.
